The study of the processes of life introduces students to the internal structures and functions of cells and reinforces previous learning about the complex interactions within a large multicellular organism like a tree or a human.
Students will explore how diverse living things, such as one celled organisms, plants and animals, share fundamental structures and functions. At each step in these investigations, students will see how the structure of the cell, and its function as part of a tissue, which in turn is part of an organ in a system, are related within the organism.
As students explore cells, they will also learn how current research into the working of cells, organs and systems contributes to our understanding of healthy living and provides pathways for new medical technologies.
