One day, Caylee and Moshe were playing with toy animals. "Let's play dinosaurs,"said Moshe. He then started pulling out animals.
"That's not a dinosaur. That's a crocodile," said Caylee.
Moshe replied, "It is too! It's a big lizard with sharp teeth. That's what dinosaurs are."
Caylee replied, "Crocodiles aren't dinosaurs! Dinosaurs are extinct.
"What does extinct mean?," Moshe asked.
Caylee said, "It means they are all gone. Crocodiles are still alive, so they're not dinosaurs!"
Other children soon came over and offered their opinions. Erin, the educator, overheard their conversation and asked Caylee a question of her own. "What do you think makes a dinosaur a dinosaur?" The class then began an investigation of dinosaurs.
