What are machines? Why do we have them? The investigations in this book, structures and mechanisms: Movement, provide opportunities for Grade 2 students to explore motion by looking at mechanisms in the real world and the simple machines within them. They will also investigate how these mechanisms allow the movement of an object.

Students will have the opportunity to conduct simple experiments, as well as design and build their own "machines" to perform certain tasks. they will consolidate and reflect on their learning in their Science and Technology Student Journal. But most of all, they will have fun learning science.

All investigations have easy-to-find materials that can be brought from home. there is an Assessment task with each activity and an overall Assesment at the end of the topic in the form of a Culminating Activity. Throughout the book, you will find resources listed to support this topic.
